Since 2023, we’ve pioneered the integration of AI into our animation process, empowering our talented animators with cutting-edge tools to accelerate production, enhance precision, and diversify our work—culminating in 2024 with our creations showcased on Hong Kong’s cinema screens and exhibited at France’s annual animation festival as one of the select Hong Kong creative companies.
What is AI + Animation?
At our studio, animation remains a human-led craft, with AI as a powerful assistant—not the creator. In our process, AI shines in both pre-production and post-production. Early on, it speeds up storyboarding by generating character and scene reference images, and even helps refine stories and dialogue. Later, it steps in to color and perfect frame-by-frame sequences drawn by our animators, adding lighting effects tailored to our vision. It also tackles post-production tasks like upscaling low-res graphics and fixing misalignments—handling the simple but time-consuming details effortlessly.
How does AI improve our animation?
So why embrace AI? It turbocharges our workflow without compromising quality. Our animators maintain over 90% likeness to original designs across every frame, with AI ensuring precision in coloring and lighting—details that once took a week now finish in a day. This fusion of human creativity and AI efficiency slashes production time, boosts accuracy, and frees us to push creative boundaries further. The result is animation that’s faster, sharper, and ready to captivate audiences like never before.

DeTour
Background Information
In 2023, our company participated in the "Future Animation – AI-Assisted Animation Production Support Scheme" organized by the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association Limited (HKDEA). With the funding received, we produced an animation over 15 minutes long within six months. Leveraging these resources, we explored the potential of AI in animation, ultimately developing a workflow that drastically shortened production time—enhancing efficiency, quality, and accuracy across both pre-production and post-production stages. This project not only screened on Hong Kong cinema screens but also traveled to France, where we showcased it at the annual French Animation Festival as one of the Hong Kong animation studios representing the region. Bringing our human-AI collaboration to an international stage, we shared our experiences with people from around the world. Honestly, this work was just an experiment for us, but we’re thrilled it left a lasting impression on most visitors—many couldn’t even tell certain shots were AI-generated.
